That Grisly Cartoon Movie Ending That Lingers Viewers
Among all the adult-oriented cartoon movies I have personally watched, no other has stuck with me quite like the dread-soaked ending of the viscerally violent and highly provocative 2022 movie The Unicorn Wars.
In 2015’s, the Spanish filmmaker crafted a dark, melancholy , frequently brutal universe that included a few small , desolate glimmers of hope.
Although Unicorn Wars appears as it came from a desire to push animation further, the filmmaker explained that it was more an effort to communicate a universal, multicultural message concerning “the mutual source of every conflict.”
That idea is expressed through a group of vividly colored bears , obviously based on a well-known series of lovable figures.
Growing up in a society focused on militarism as well as the defense industry, a lot of the bears are fixated on slaughtering the mythical beasts, because of a holy book that claims the bears they used to be masters of the forest, before these creatures expelled them.
Some haven’t fully accepted the brainwashing, , would rather experiment with narcotics and fornicate in the forest.
Unlike their friendly equivalents, these vivid animals show genitals , obvious urges.
For a certain notably brutal, skeptical animal, the bear named Bluey, the war with the unicorns transforms into a road to power — and specifically to authority over his gentler, kinder brother the character Tubby.
Bluey behaves aggressively , an apparent psychopath , and as terror overcomes his unit and kills his teammates sequentially, he takes progressively influence on his own behalf, through ever more bloody, destructive ways.
At the same time, the horned creatures are experiencing their own nightmare, through an expanding, destructive monster in their forest.
“Initially, it appears as a comedy,” the director commented. “But then it turns into a more dramatic and melancholic film. And ultimately, it transforms into a horror film.”
Unicorn Wars commences feeling a bit like among the whimsical films by a legendary animator, that discover a naughty glee in allowing drawn beings swear, engage in violence, or have intimate relations.
Subsequently it evolves into something more like a bleaker work by that same director, with increasingly visual gore , a palpable connection to genuine suffering of battle.
In the finale, it becomes an outright extreme drama bloodbath.
The horror which makes the film a Halloween-friendly viewing kicks in well before than indicated.
Unicorn Wars is one for the hardcore fans of gore, for enthusiasts of graphic films who wish to see a film they haven’t ever viewed until now, and can endure a story that pulls unflinching brutality.
